Hypnotherapy Pre-Talk

Hypnotherapy Pre-Talk

Before the initial session of Hypnotherapy I conduct a general pre talk with you to explain what hypnosis is and how it works. You may ask any questions afterwards. This will give you a clear understanding of how your mind works and how it repaints to change using hypnotherapy.

Please read the following:

GENERAL PRETALK

Introduction
I’d like to spend a few moments with you before your session to talk a little bit about hypnosis and answer some questions that you might have. This will save us a lot of time when your session actually begins.
You have a pen and paper, please write down any questions you have so we can discuss them later.

The Mind Model
Now for you to understand how hypnosis works, it is important for you to know how your mind works.
First we have a conscious mind. This is where we are right now and most of the time. Below that level of awareness, we have the subconscious mind. And yet deeper still there is another part of us called the unconscious mind. Basically the unconscious mind does two things. First, it controls the strength or weakness of the immune system and, secondly, it controls the functions, the automatic body functions, such as; our heart beating, out breathing, and things of that order. During hypnosis we don’t use the unconscious mind.

Conscious Mind
The conscious mind is where we spend most of our time. It basically only does four things and no more.

Analytical Mind
The first thing it does, is analyses. This is the part of us that looks at problems, analyses them, figures out a way to solve those particular problems bothering us at the moment. It is also the part of us that makes hundreds of decisions we have to make on and average day, decisions that we think are automatic; but in fact, are not. Things like, “Should I open the door?”, “Should I turn the water on?” or “Should I tie my shoe laces?” Well, we think those are automatic functions, but we must make a decision as to whether or not we want to do those things.

Will Power
The second part of the conscious mind is called will power. Now, we all familiar with will power. We have all heard “I’m going to put down this pack of cigarettes and nothing on the earth will make me start smoking again!” We all know how long that generally lasts. When people go on a diet, how long does that generally last? Just until our will-power weakens and the old habit pattern comes back again.

Working Memory
The next part of the conscious mind is what called working memory. That’s the memory we need every day. This is short term memory

Critical Factor
The final part is the critical factor the blocking part of the conscious mind, this is the part which fools the mind into believing or justifying behaviours or thoughts. That’s all the conscious mind does. It is logical, very analytical and frequently wrong.

Sub-Conscious Mind
Now where the REAL you, me and everybody else lives is the level below the conscious mind which is called the sub-conscious mind. The sub-conscious mind is extremely powerful. It can make you into anything you want to be. Rich and famous, thin or overweight, happy or sad. To understand how the subconscious mind works, you need to understand that it very much like a computer and operates in a similar way too. You know that if you have a computer with no programs on it, it just sits there and doesn’t do anything. Now this computer can only operate based on the programming that is placed on it and it must operate on that programming, it has no choice. You know if you change the programming on the computer, it can no longer operate on the old programming and it must operate on the new programming information that has been loaded into it.
Well this is the way our sub-conscious mind works. It’s just like a computer. It functions on the same rules and regulations as an electronic one does; only it is more powerful. From the day we are born our computer is programmed every day through our life experiences. Every day we add programming to our internal computer. Now, the primary rule of our computer is this. It must, make us into the type of person that it perceives us to be based on all the programming that has been placed on it and will continue to be placed into it until the day we die.

Memory
So what is the operational software in out internal computers? First is all our memory, since the day we were born. The subconscious mind is like a video camera. Everything that has happened to you, everything that you have ever heard, seen, smelled or tasted is locked permanently into memory banks of your subconscious mind. We never forget anything. If there is a reason to, in hypnosis we can access that memory bank and it seems like we can actually travel back in time. For example, in regression hypnosis you can travel back and re-live your first birthday. Now, this is more that recall, it is actually like you are there, and it is happening all over again. You can see what happened, you can smell, you can taste, you can hear very clearly. We never forget anything in the subconscious, only at the conscious level.

Habits
The second programming we have in the inner mind, the subconscious mind, is habits. We automatically respond in a certain fashion when something else happens. When the phone rings, for example, we don’t look at it and wonder what it is, we automatically pick it up and depending on our mood; we answer it in a certain manner.

Emotional Mind
The next part of out subconscious mind is the emotional part. Of course, we wouldn’t want to be without emotions, love and caring and all those other good emotions, but sometimes our emotions get us into trouble. The conscious mind cannot deal with emotions in any way; that is not part of its job.
Protective Mind
The next thing in the subconscious mind, and probably the most important part of it is our protective mind. It must protect us against danger, real or imagined. You see, something imagined by the subconscious mind is just as is it were really happening, it can’t tell the difference. And it must protect us against danger.

Lazy Mind
The last property of the subconscious mind is a negative one. Although the subconscious is so powerful, it is also the laziest part of us. It doesn’t like to do the work that is required to accept positive suggestions to give change in areas where we would like to have change. It likes to keep things the way there are, it takes too much work to make change in a positive way. And positive suggestions are the most difficult things to get into our subconscious minds. On the other hand, negative suggestions go into this inner part of us like a hot knife through butter, because it doesn’t take any work to accept a negative suggestion.
Let me show you how this works. Take a very heavy person and they get out of the shower. They are standing in front of the mirror drying themselves. What do you think they are saying to themselves as they are looking into the mirror? “I’m Fat”. Now, this idea or taught or words go right into the subconscious mind and the subconscious mind says, “Yes, that matches the programming that I have in here, that matches the perception I have of you”. Therefore it accepts the suggestion so the perception of that person becomes stronger and they become heavier. On the other hand, if you take the same heavy person and stand them in front of a mirror and have them say, “I’m thin, I’m trim and I’m attractive”. That goes toward the subconscious mind and the subconscious mind says, “No, that does not match the programming”, “it would take too much work to change my programming”, and it’s not allowed in.

Hypnosis
Well, how do we get suggestion into that subconscious mind? Well, here we use something called hypnosis. Now, what hypnosis does is this. It allows us to by-passes the critical factor, the blocking part of our conscious mind.

You are not asleep
Now, when we are in the state of hypnosis, it is not what you expect it to be. Our bodies, if we are using a relaxation type of hypnosis, are very relaxed; but, the more we go into hypnosis, the more our conscious mind becomes alert. In the deeper levels of hypnosis, your conscious mind is two to three hundred percent more alert than you are at this very moment. All of your five senses, including hearing, smelling, tasting, and seeing are hundreds of times better than they are right now.
So when you are in hypnosis, you are not asleep, you are extremely alert, probably more alert and clear minded than you have ever been before. Now the important thing to understand about this is that the conscious mind takes on a different role when you are in hypnosis. I want you to think of it as playing the role of the guardian of the gates protecting you. When you receive a suggestion in hypnosis, you hear it loud and clear.

Four Mental Attitudes
Now when you hear that suggestion, and these are the tools of success or failure with Hypnosis. When you hear that suggestion with your conscious mind, you must, and you really don’t have and choice, make a decision about that suggestion. The decision you make determines whether that suggestion is allowed to enter your subconscious mind or whether it is rejected. If it is allowed to enter, you will have the change that you are here to achieve, if it is rejected, there will be no change.
What are these choices? The first one could be, when you hear the suggestion, you think or say to yourself, “I like this suggestion, I want it!”. This mental attitude at the conscious level allows that suggestion to go into the computer, your subconscious mind, and change begins.
Unfortunately, you have other choices. The next choice could be, well, actually hating the suggestion, or feeling that it is something against your morals or beliefs which would be rejected immediately, but perhaps that suggestion is just a tiny little bit uncomfortable for you. Well, if that suggestion sounds just the tiniest bit uncomfortable to you for any reason, it is automatically blocked by the critical factor of the conscious mind and it is not allowed to enter the computer and there is no change.  The critical factor will not let anything into your subconscious that you do not like, even if it’s only a slight dislike of that suggestion.
The next choice could be that you are neutral about the suggestion, you don’t care if you get it or you don’t care if you don’t get it. It is a kind of meaningless suggestion to you. The conscious mind blocks this suggestion and it is not allowed to enter the computer.
The only time a suggestion is allowed to go into your computer is if you take the mental attitude when you hear the suggestion “I like that suggestion, I want it”. And that’s how easy it is.

The Truth
If you allow me to be your guide, I’ll show you how to place yourself in a beautiful state of hypnosis. Feeling the physical relaxation and mental alertness. If you allow me to be your guide, I’ll show you how to stay there until we are finished. If you ever don’t want to be in this beautiful relaxed state, the slightest taught by you and it’s over and you are back to your normal state of awareness. But if you follow my guidance, I’ll show you how to stay there.
And then the most important thing of all is, if you accept the suggestions given to you with the correct mental attitude, “I like it, I want it”, you’ll have change in the way you want it. If you take one of the other choices, the change you want will be much more difficult. I can’t force a suggestion into your main. Only you and allow it to happen.
Hypnosis is a 100% consent state by you. You must allow things to happen. You can stop them from happening with the slightest thought if you don’t want it to happen. I want you to know that anyone who wants Hypnosis, can go into a very deep level of Hypnosis, how fast? (Snap Fingers) Just like that!
The only thing that keeps a person from going into that beautiful state of physical relaxation and mental alertness is that they have a fear or misconception about what Hypnosis really is.

Fears and Misconceptions
I would like to talk to you briefly about some of the more common fears and misconceptions of Hypnosis.
Some people feel that when you are in Hypnosis, that you are asleep. Well, I want you to know that when your mind is 2 to 300% more alert that you are now at this very moment, this is about as far from sleep as you are ever going to get. Hypnosis has nothing to do with sleep.
Some people are afraid they won’t “wake up” from Hypnosis and they won’t. I agree with that, I have never seen anybody walk up from Hypnosis. There is only one thing that you can “wake up” form and that is sleep. If you are not asleep, you cannot wake up. Anytime you want to emerge from hypnosis, all you have to do is have the slightest thought that you don’t want to be in this relaxed state anymore and instantly, it’s over and you are back to your normal awareness.

There is another powerful misconception that some people have that says that I can control you and make you do anything I want you to do. I have to be honest with you, I wish that that was possible because then I could guarantee your success. But remember you have those four choices when you hear a suggestion and the only time the suggestion is allowed to enter your computer is if you say, “I like it, I want that suggestion”. I can’t force a suggestion in, I can’t control you. What mental attitude you take when you hear a suggestion determines success or failure.

Some people have the misconception that they will tell me all their deep dark secrets when they are in Hypnosis. For the same reasons of mental alertness, you are more in control of anything you choose to do or say while you are in Hypnosis than you are right now. If you don’t want to tell me something, then you simply won’t. If I was to ask you for information that was none of my business, you would simply tell me that it is none of my business. No one can make you divulge information that is proprietary.

Stage Hypnosis
Some people say, “That all sound reasonable but I’ve seen a stage Hypnotist work and I know he was controlling those people on stage. I’ve seen them run around like chickens and bark like dog’s” So Let me tell you how stage Hypnosis works.
When the stage Hypnotist comes out and gives a short lecture on Hypnosis saying he is showing the entertainment side of Hypnosis and there is also a clinical side, he tells the people, “Really good subjects are those individuals who have the best ability to imagine, a wonderful imagination and the ability to concentrate,” and he will give the audience a test for imagination and concentration, what he is actually doing is testing the audience for two very important things. First, who goes into Hypnosis quickly and more importantly, he is testing those people to find out who want to have fun and who is uninhibited in public. These are the people he invites up on stage. They usually enter Hypnosis very rapidly and very easily. And those people because they want to have fun, take the mental attitude, I like it, I want it to work and it does.
Many times on the stage, a person will think they want to do those things, but when it comes time to actually have it happen, they don’t have the correct mental attitude and the suggestion is ineffective. These people, the stage Hypnotist sends back to their seats, or, if it’s long enough into the show, he will sit them on a stage chair and ignore them for the rest of the show.
Stage Hypnosis operates by the same rules as clinical Hypnosis, you always have the choice as to whether or not you want that suggestion. If you don’t want it, truthfully don’t want it, it will be rejected and there will be no change.

Success Rate
So you see, Hypnosis is up to you. If you accept the suggestions with the correct mental attitude, I like it, I know it will work, yes, you will have 100% success.

Conclusion
I know you are going to enjoy our session together. Thank you for giving me this time with you.

So you want to lose weight?

So you want to lose weight?

Most of know that familiar feeling of weight creeping up on us and before we know it our mid rift is simply beginning to hang over our belt not to mention the less visible belly button. There are so many reasons and excuses and unfortunately our subconscious mind is really clever at brushing it under the carpet. Hormones changes leading to a slowing metabolism, not enough time because the kids are on the go all the time, lack of energy, eating on the go, snacking between meals….the reasons are endless. But what id=f a few simple changes to your lifestyle with little effort helped to change your thought process and prepare yourself for a healthier life and body with little effort? Interested?….read pn please.

Start with the intention of following through and not giving in from the beginning. The week before you want to start implementing change begin with a few simple mind exercises

  1. On waking each day feel grateful for everything you have in your life so far. Gratitude for the warm home, job, family etc whatever is important to you. Focus on this a few time for a few minutes each day. Before going to sleep feel grateful for your day and the fact that you want to implement change.
  2. Continue to eat as you usually do but take a mental note of what you have eaten. Drink plenty of water. Warmed water with fruit infused can be more exciting to drink.
  3. Spend a few minutes each day imagining what your end result will look like. Even look at some past photos when you felt healthier and weighted less.
  4. Buy one medium sized BLUE plate and if possible a BLUE glass.

And now for the following week……the work begins

  1. Continue to focus on the exercises from the week before especially increasing water intake.
  2. Plan the meals/menu for the week so you don’t over shop.
  3. Use fresh and unprocessed food as much as possible. Less carbs and more protein. Eliminate  bread, toast and wraps. Starting the day with  2 eggs scrambled or poached is great and filling especially when tomatoes, spinach and a small amount of feta is yum. This is filling and there is a chance of less snacking.
  4. Have a homemade veg soup mid morning if you feel hungry. Lunches are easy, such as chicken fillet salad or salmon salad.
  5. Dinner is sensible by have veg instead of pasta or potatoes with meat (not processed) steak, mince, chicken etc.
  6. Serve all your meals on a BLUE place and use a BLUE glass. Blue is a calming colour but there is also scientific proof that blue suppresses the appetite. There is very little blue in the natural world and food. Yes blueberries are blue but theres not a lot of other blue natural foods.
  7. Using a medium size plate or a smaller plate than normal also sends a signal to the brain that the plate is full.
  8. Slow down eating and chewing. this gives the brain time to acknowledge you have eaten and are feel full.
  9. In between meals it is ok to have hunger pains and to get used to them. It’s simply the boys way of telling us that its time to prepare a meal. In the meantime the body is busy digesting what it can from the previous meal and preparing for the next. Burning up extra calories.
  10. Sit down for every meal. No more eating on the go.

Start with these simple changes and remember that if you are over eating or eating the wrong food your mind has become conditioned to this so changing the thought process around can take time. Get out into the fresh air more and walk a little each day. This gives clarity of mind and helps release happy endorphins. Increasing daily exercise is always going to be beneficial.

It is always great to have help and support with changing any of the minds subconscious habits especially around food and exercise.

Hypnotherapy has been hugely successful for many making the journey less effort and a more pleasurable experience.

FAQ – What is Hypnotherapy?

FAQ – What is Hypnotherapy?

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation and concentration at one with the state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion. It is a natural trance state, like daydreaming, when the mind is relaxed and focused, where time passes very quickly, accompanied by good feelings of deep relaxation of mind and body.

Hypnotherapy is a treatment that is based on the premise that the mind and body do not work in isolation. By sending the patient into a hypnotic state, the therapist aims to trigger the body’s mental and physical self-healing processes that lie in the subconscious.

Anybody can be sent into a hypnotic state; it is not a sign of gullibility or suggestibility on the part of the patient. Hypnosis induces a state of relaxation and concentration that practitioners claim is a natural manifestation of the mind at work.

When undergoing hypnotherapy, patients are conscious and aware, but are open to the power of suggestion. They cannot be induced to do anything against their will.

ARE THERE SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT BE HYPNOTISED?

Everyone is capable of sleep and trance experiences such as daydreaming and can therefore be hypnotised. Hypnosis is a natural phenomenon and even animals are capable of experiencing hypnosis spontaneously.

There are some exceptions, such as young children, people with mental difficulties or those with extremely sub-normal intelligence. Psychotic patients are not advised to undergo hypnosis.

WILL I BE AWARE OF WHAT’S HAPPENING WHEN UNDER HYPNOSIS?

Yes. The word ‘hypnosis’ derives from Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, but most people experiencing hypnosis are far from actually sleeping. The predominant feeling of most people is that it cannot have worked and they did not ‘go under’.

People experiencing hypnosis may appear to others to be asleep, but they can think, talk, open their eyes and respond to suggestion freely. When under hypnosis, people are usually aware of their surroundings and can hear everything going on around them, including the hypnotherapist’s voice.

WHAT IS SELF-HYPNOSIS?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, meaning that the hypnotherapist is only a guide or catalyst to elicit the trance experience in the client. The power of hypnosis resides in the client, not in the hypnotherapist.

HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK?

Scientists are not really sure how it works. The autonomic nervous system controls all the automatic functions of the body while we are asleep and it has been proven that words and suggestion can affect the central nervous system while we are awake.

Distracting the conscious mind causes a dissociation of the conscious and unconscious mind and is the first step in inducing hypnosis. There are many differing techniques a hypnotherapist can use to put a client into hypnosis.

By talking to their clients in a soothing voice and getting them to visualise relaxing and monotonous situations, practitioners are able to send their clients into a state of very deep relaxation where they will still be aware of their surroundings but are very much more sensitive to suggestion.

Once the patient has closed their eyes, the hypnotherapist deepens the trance by suggesting to the conscious mind to daydream or relax. While the conscious mind is inactive the subject is likely to respond to all suggestions literally. Positive suggestions are then introduced and absorbed by the conscious mind.

When in this state, the patient’s subconscious can be ‘reprogrammed’ to deal with certain feelings in a different way and as such, hypnotherapy is not only very effective in the treatment of phobias, addictions, but it can also reduce stress and alleviate pain.

HOW SUCCESSFUL IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Practitioners and researchers claim success rates of 90% and higher for professionally conducted hypnotherapy, that is followed up with a treatment plan and self-hypnosis tapes.

A research project in the UK found that 92% of those who had attended a hypnotherapist would recommend the experience to others. The Irish Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy claim an 80% success rate in treating clients for smoking.

WHAT AILMENTS IS HYPNOTHERAPY SUITABLE FOR TREATING?

Hypnotherapy is useful for treating a variety of complaints, both physical and mental. Used in conjunction with other therapies, such as psychoanalysis, hypnotherapy can help patients to overcome certain psychological complaints, including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, depression, phobias, and neuroses.

It is particularly useful for overcoming phobias, and ceasing problematic habitual behaviour, like stammering, snoring, smoking, teeth grinding, sleepwalking or nail biting.

It can also help alleviate some of the symptoms of physical complaints like allergies, travel sickness, insomnia and irritable bowel syndrome. Used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment, hypnotherapy has demonstrated positive benefits in the treatment of cancer.

Hypnotherapy is also useful in providing general health benefits, such as improving posture and digestion, reducing dependence on sleeping pills or tranquillisers, and helping to eradicate stress.

WHEN IS HYPNOTHERAPY NOT RECOMMENDED?

Hypnotherapy is not generally advisable for mentally disturbed or psychotic patients. Some psychiatric professionals do use hypnotherapy in conjunction with orthodox treatments for patients with such conditions, but always within an institutional environment where other forms of treatment are also available.

Patients suffering from schizophrenia, bipolar conditions, suicidal tendencies, senility, alcohol or drug psychosis, pathological personalities or manic depression are generally advised not to undergo hypnotherapy.

While hypnotherapy is useful in alleviating mild cases of depression, it is contra-indicated for manic depression and bipolar conditions. It is also contraindicated in some cases of epilepsy.

The Irish Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy consider that any organic symptomology should not be treated by hypnotherapy until a doctor has made a diagnosis and recommended hypnotherapy as a course of treatment.

HOW MANY HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Every hypnotherapist has their own way of approaching different symptoms, depending on their training and experience. On average between six and eight sessions might be expected for most ailments, whereas one session may be sufficient to cease smoking.

Spring Clean Your House, Spring Clean Your Mind – Mindfulness

Spring Clean Your House, Spring Clean Your Mind – Mindfulness

Mindfulness: Wow! What a fantastic time of year it is!

I love this time spring. Nature is awakening after a sleepy snooze but it is wakening with a new and revived energy, new growth and freshness. We are all part of this cycle of nature even those of us who are too busy to notice the tiny buds or now fading daffodils.

The dreariness of the chilly winter is fading, the post-Christmas bank balance beginning to look healthy again and the sun shinning a little longer through our windows. We rush around our homes getting ready for the next days work, glancing at still warm unmade beds, preparing children’s school lunches, feeding the dog and cat, tripping over the shoes in the hall and piling the breakfast dishes beside the sink which you will curse later, when all you want to do is sit down, have a coffee and flick a magazine or ring that friend you need to catch up with so desperately.

The beams of spring morning sun illuminate your home, touching your life as you feel it’s familiar soothing warmth on your skin and for a moment your feel its energy, summer is on its way. Then you see it…the sun illuminating your dirty windows, the dust on the bookcase, the tuffs of tumble weed fluff dancing on the wooden floor as your rush past to grab your keys and quickly activate your house alarm if someone were to break in a steal your grubby processions.

Kids dropped at school gate, quick wave to another ” Yikes! we’re dead late” mum, whiz around corner almost forgetting to change gear. Slow! Slow! Speed camera. Phew! Traffic lights, eternally red. STOP! Pedestrian crossing. Why is it called rush hour…its all so slow!

Joyous ‘hello’ to boss with seconds to spare and breathe… Yes I just love spring.

Now I have all that cleaning to do that was hiding in the shadows of winter. My house is full of clutter, my mind is full of clutter. I need space, I need order. This is so typical for many of us. Have you ever got to the stage of almost hyperventilating at the thought of all that extra stuff you feel you need to do? I have, most of us have. I can remember opening my hot press and feeling like a breakdown was looming. All these clothes to sort, odd socks to match and the laundry basket is over flowing again. Silent scream from inside!

A few simple steps and changes in the way you respond can help you to enjoy the new awakening of the spring without the stress lurking in the shadows waiting to trip you up. So where to start.

  • Accept that what you are doing is not working and needs to change.
  • Don’t rush in to change anything. Just look at the things which are causing you stress in the day and acknowledge that you are about to change it.
  • Don’t get angry at the things which are causing the stress. Your angry response is the stress.
  • Be mindful that your mind full of clutter needs clearing as well as your home. Visualise that image and feel the good feeling it brings.
  • Decide that this is not just a once off but you are going to do it regularly. It is going to become part of your routine because you reap the benefits through a healthy mind and a healthy environment.

After you have de-cluttered use a gauge or a warning signal you recognise for when it is time to start the cycle all over again. If you see that little bundle of paper and post building up on the work top again you maybe slipping into your cluttered ways again.

“A journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step”.

Decide where in your home you would most like to see clear of clutter first thing in the morning. As you wake up in your bedroom, why not start there? Wake up to fresh, organised and clutter free day. Start small. If you can only spare 15 minutes to work on it well that’s fine. What ever it is you have uncluttered and organised be proud of it and compliment yourself. Admire you new space. Even if it means looking under the bed at the space that once was home to orphan socks and an untidy pile of shoes. The feeling is good but don’t rest on your laurels. Build on them and use this as your motivation to keep going.

Once you have acknowledged and welcomed that feel good positive thoughts, you are replacing some of your negative and self-limiting thoughts. It might be a slow process but the more de-cluttering of your space the more de-cluttering of your mind happens. So your busy getting ready for the day, breakfast, lunches and all the usual stuff.

The sun shines in your window and sends a soft warm glow into your life. You notice the sun catches the dirt on the glass and grey sheen of the dust on the bookcase but it is a fantastic time for spring cleaning.

Get rid of the clutter and make room for the new. Be at one with Mother Nature in her cycle of renewal. New thoughts and new ideas.

The seeds are growing, there is a renewed energy. It is spring after all. You noticed that as soon as you woke up this morning and looked around your space.

Panic Attacks

Panic Attacks

A recent interesting case involved a professional driver who had literally got out of his vehicle a year ago, leaving it at the side of the road after suffering a severe panic attack.

His symptoms were so bad he thought he was having a heart attack with severe chest pains, sweating and shaking.

The gentleman had been having monthly medicals with his company and had visited psychologists but had still not been able to return to work.

Hypnotherapy had been suggested to him by a friend, almost as a last resort and by this stage he was completely open to the idea, as he had exhausted all other avenues.

The client attended for 2 sessions in total so far, and after the 2nd session was due his monthly medical the following Thursday, but was adamant at the start of the session that it would be a long time before he was back driving.

2 ½ hours later after a tough regression session the client actually said he felt like going back to work as soon as possible and 4 days after his medical, through the power of his own will and ability to change, he was back driving.

One month later, he is still driving on a daily basis although there is still a small amount of anxiety, which we will deal with on subsequent visits.

Anxiety Case Study

Anxiety Case Study: A young mother of three small children came to me recently to do something about her stress and anxieties, which were getting in the way of normal family life.

She was finding it very difficult to control her anger at times and this was upsetting her more as she was concerned the effect this would have on her children.

During our first session together we regressed her back to childhood and uncovered some old memories that we were able to re programme and get rid of some issues from the past allowing her to push away the feelings of anger.

Two weeks after that first session, the client is reporting that she is handling things much better and the small things are not creating anger the way they were.

Mindful Moments

Mindful Moments

Mindfulness:

being present in the moment. No thoughts of the past or the future. Only present thoughts and being non-judgemental. Begin to watch your thoughts without judgement.

Exercise to develop Mindfulness:

Each day try to become aware of the present moment. The more you do this, the easier meditation will become. Pick a time of day or an activity to consciously become mindful e.g.

* When showering each morning clear your mind and become aware of what is happening NOW. How does the water feel? How does your body feel? Any smells or sensations, shampoo, soap? Identify the feeling/emotion you are feeling and just accept it and observe it.
* Driving mindfully can be a different experience for the boring journey you take every day. Slow down, note what you see, observe your thoughts especially about other drivers.
* Mindful eating can make a meal taste much better and you will find you eat less.
* Mindful walking
* Mindful brushing teeth
* Mindful stairs.

The list is endless, be creative!

This is great if you find you just don’t have the time to meditate for some reason. It is still focusing on concentrating your mind and keeping it in the present moment.
